Pecan Creek Park: Walking Trail to Sports Complex
Meandering along Pecan Creek through the middle of town from the football stadium on the south to the newest addition to the park system, a sports complex on the north, Pecan Creek Park is 58 acres of fun. Numerous picnic tables, gazebos, and playgrounds for the public and a paved walking trail can be found along the trail completed in 2012.
New Sports Complex on Pecan Creek
Recently opened, the new park is at the north end of Pecan Creek Park. It offers: 2 Little League fields, 1 softball field, a multi-purpose soccer/football field, a paved hike/bike trail, a skate park, playgrounds for toddlers and children up to age 12, the historic Bulman Bridge, a volleyball court, picnic tables and grills, horseshoe pits, and just across the Bulman Bridge, hikers or bikers will find the A.G. Thompson nature trail, a 1/2 mile of scenic, undisturbed natural beauty.
Walking Trail: City Pool
The city swimming pool is located at the south end of Pecan Creek Park, just north of the Schadler Meadow playground and restrooms. The pool opens on the last day of school each year and remains open until mid August. Manned by well trained lifeguards, admission is $2.00 per person. The walking trail continues from the pool to the north, tunnels under both State Highway 36 and Henry Street past the Hamilton Public Library and into J.L. Hamilton Plaza where a gazebo centers the Master Gardeners' demonstration garden featuring many landscape and garden plants that flourish in this Central Texas climate. From the plaza, the walking trail continues across two city more streets and through the Schrank playground and gazebo area. The gazebo is used by groups doing Pilates and Yoga with restrooms nearby. The walking trail then continues into the Sports Complex and for the next 2200' it is adjacent to two youth baseball fields, one adult softball field, a soccer field, playground area for toddlers and children up to age 12, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, skate park, and 6 picnic sites.
Fair Park
Hamilton has 30 acres of the park system in the northwest corner of town used for larger gatherings. Featured is the Jayson Harris Pavilion that rents for up to $150.00 per day depending on the organization. Also available, the Pavilion has a new addition that rents for $100.00 per day. Outdoors, this park area includes a children's playground, horseshoe pits, the High School baseball field, and a tractor pull area used annually for the Hamilton Antique Tractor and Farm Machinery Show.
Horton Park
On the east side of town, Hamilton's Horton Park has almost 6 acres of playground areas and a regulation youth softball field. Kiwanis field is the recently updated home of Hamilton High School's Softball team.
City Lake
About 2 miles east of the city limits on State Highway 22, Hamilton's City Lake Park's 161 acres includes 48 acres under water. Donated to the city in 1923 for a water supply, the park is used by hikers, wildlife viewers and fishermen although gasoline engines are not allowed on the lake.
